The story, via Althouse: the case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn might be unraveling.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn was released from house arrest on Friday as the sexual assault case against him moved one step closer to dismissal after prosecutors told a Manhattan judge that they had serious problems with the case.
Prosecutors acknowledged that there were significant credibility issues with the hotel housekeeper who accused Mr. Strauss-Kahn of trying to rape her in May. In a brief hearing at State Supreme Court in Manhattan, prosecutors did not oppose his release; the judge then freed Mr. Strauss-Kahn on his own recognizance.
Of course, as Instapundit points out, "he sure acted guilty that day." He quick got onto a plane back to France, remember, even though he was scheduled to be flying someplace else.
Still, it may be that the blogospherical raking-over-the-coals Strauss-Kahn received was...oh, let’s just say hasty. Ann Althouse suggests that those of us who blogged about it look over what we wrote at the time with “serious circumspection.” Ha. I don’t do that.
Oh, fine. I mentioned the story twice. Once here:
Remember when that American kid got sentenced to being whipped with a cane in Singapore?
It was 1994, according to the internet. Michael Fay. He got busted for theft and vandalism while he was over there, and caning – being beaten with a bamboo cane – is a regular punishment in their legal system.
The general consensus among people I knew at the time was: well, you’re gonna break the law in another country, you’re gonna hafta live with their punishments.
Welcome to America, Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Hope you enjoy your stay.
I was obviously just wishing him well. And one other time, in an automotivator:
So. There. I'm as clean as Florence Henderson's reputation.
