“Captain America” removed from the title of “Captain America” to avoid anti-American sentiment.

But it’s not quite as bad as it sounds:

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios gave distributors around the world the option of shortening the title of "Captain America: The First Avenger" to simply "The First Avenger," out of concern about anti-American sentiment.

But the only countries that took them up on it were Russia, Ukraine and South Korea.

In other territories, the movie will go out with the full title, a sign that the brand value of the Marvel Comics hero trumps any potential anti-U.S. feelings in some parts of the world.

Yeah, I know, I'm supposed to be in high dudgeon over this. But I'm just not.

A few questions:

  • What will other characters call him during the movie? “Captain Avenger?” Or just “hey, you in the tights!”

  • Are audiences in Russia, Ukraine, and South Korea too dense to recognize the colors? Or are they showing the movie in black and white?

  • Where else is the movie being released, and why didn’t those countries opt for the shorter title?

  • Do they even show American movies in the Middle East? What about China? Or France?

  • What will Paramount Pictures do if the movie version of “Wonder Woman” is ever made?

Response: Guess they won't watch this movie, man. Only U.S likes Capitain America. To the rest of the world (yes, it exists!), he is just an old and uninteresting character of comics.
