Wary of front-runner status, Cain campaign finds way to keep the media doubting

A couple days ago, it was two staffers in New Hampshire quitting. Now:

Herman Cain’s Iowa director, Tina Goff, told TheIowaRepublican.com that she has submitted her resignation and is no longer working for the campaign. In addition to Goff’s resignation, TheIowaRepublican.com can confirm that Kevin Hall has also left the campaign. Hall served as Cain’s Straw Poll coordinator.

The series of resignations (four in all) has brought about comparisons to Newt Gingrich, who lost a far greater number of staffers a few weeks ago. Thus, Cain maintains his firm hold on the underdog, dark-horse, candidate-everybody-wishes-would win status while also elevating himself to Gingrich-level warhorse status.

Shrewd.

Plus this:

Cain brought in $2.46 million in campaign contributions, a number the campaign tells TPM it expects to see rise to closer to $2.48 when all the final reporting is done.

That's actually a really small amount compared to other candidates, but it's nothing to scoff at, either. And:

"The campaign boasts $0 in campaign debt," team Cain noted in a press release, "which Cain believes is a testament to his business principles."

Everybody loves an underdog!

Memeorandum.

  1. Even in Socialist NYC ( Peoples Republic of Queens) amongst people who 32 months ago were BHO kool-aid swillers, Cain has piqued the curiosity of many. People here are listening to him and questioning perhaps registering as Republican to vote for him out of conviction. Four neighbors of mine have admitted to me over cigars that he makes sense AND has more authenticity than the current WH occupant. That certainly is a start!
